The Boys Town Center for Behavioral Health offers an APA‑accredited, pre‑doctoral psychology internship focused on comprehensive clinical training with children, adolescents, and families. The program emphasizes evidence‑based care, strong supervision, and progressive responsibility within an interdisciplinary clinical setting.


Program Overview

The APA Psychology Internship Program at the Boys Town Center for Behavioral Health provides broad‑based clinical training grounded in the scientist‑practitioner model. The program is designed to prepare interns for competent, ethical, and evidence‑based practice with children, adolescents, and families.

Training experiences emphasize the integration of intervention, consultation, and professional development within an interdisciplinary care model. Interns are exposed to a wide range of presenting concerns and clinical settings, designed to build skills over the training year.

Clinical Training Experience

Interns receive supervised clinical experience across multiple service areas within the Center for Behavioral Health. Training is structured to provide both depth and breadth, supporting the development of strong foundational competencies.

Outpatient Therapy

Interns provide individual, family, and group therapy services to children and adolescents presenting with a range of emotional, behavioral, and developmental concerns. Treatment approaches emphasize empirically supported interventions and developmentally informed care.

Interdisciplinary Collaboration

Training includes opportunities to collaborate with professionals across disciplines, including psychiatry, pediatrics, education, residential care providers, and other behavioral health specialties.

Additional Training Opportunities

Dependent upon need and intern interest, the following could be training emphases:

  • Parent‑Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) exposure
  • Behavioral pediatrics
  • Trauma‑informed care
  • Tic Clinic
  • Medical specialty clinic exposure

Supervision & Didactics

Interns receive consistent, high‑quality supervision throughout the training year. Supervision and didactic activities are designed to support clinical skill development, self‑reflection, and professional identity formation.

Training includes:

  • Weekly individual supervision with licensed psychologists
  • Additional layers of supervision, including group and peer supervision
  • Structured didactic seminars addressing clinical skills, ethics, assessment, diversity, and professional development
  • Access to all providers through scheduled and unscheduled formats

The program emphasizes supportive supervision, open communication, and graduated autonomy.  


Application and Eligibility

The Psychology Internship Program is a full‑time, 12‑month training experience for pre‑doctoral interns.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Enrollment in an APA‑accredited doctoral program in psychology
  • Completion of required graduate coursework and practicum experiences prior to internship
  • Passed the Comprehensive Exams (prelims) by the time of application

Accreditation: The Psychology Internship Program at the Boys Town Center for Behavioral Health is accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA) through the Nebraska Internship Consortium in Professional Psychology (NICPP).
