At Boys Town North Florida, we know working with children and youth who are dysregulated or have experienced trauma can be incredibly challenging. Parents and caregivers often find themselves overwhelmed, searching for practical tools to ease outbursts, meltdowns and the emotional storms that come with healing.
To help strengthen the support we provide to families, our program consultants from CCS, IHFS, FHP and FFS joined together for a special Lunch & Learn hosted by SEDNET. Anne Bosick, SEDNET Region 2B Project Manager, led the session and brought an incredible mix of expertise, encouragement and hands-on learning.
Anne guided the team through a thoughtful discussion on calming strategies and mood regulation techniques. Consultants were invited to explore a variety of calming toys, weighted blankets, and sensory tools -- touching, holding and experiencing the items we often recommend to families. The opportunity to engage with these tools firsthand helped staff think more deeply about how these sensory supports feel for a child in crisis.
Anne also introduced additional resources available through the SEDNET website, giving staff new ideas and options they can share with the families they serve. By the end of the session, consultants walked away equipped with practical tools, deeper understanding and fresh inspiration to help families create calming areas within their homes.
This Lunch & Learn not only strengthened our partnership with SEDNET but also reinforced our shared commitment to helping children and families find peace, regulation and moments of comfort during difficult times.
