Boys Town North Florida youth Jose Leach (formerly Jose Colon, Jr.) was honored as the Leon County Schools Youth Volunteer of the year recently at its Volunteer, Partner and Mentor Recognition Event.
Jose was recognized along with other incredible individuals and organizations that make a profound impact on the lives of those in the Tallahassee community. His remarkable journey to become an esteemed volunteer garnered well-deserved recognition.
Jose's story is one of resilience, determination and the transformative power of love and support. Originally part of Boys Town's Family Home Program and then Foster Family Services, Jose faced his share of challenges when he arrived at Boys Town North Florida in 2015. Despite the obstacles, Jose's tenacity and the unwavering dedication of his caregivers, Tamara and Richard Leach, along with Assistant Family-Teacher, Greg Denson, propelled him forward.
Under the nurturing care of the Leach family, Jose thrived, overcoming hurdles, and finding his footing in the Family Home Program. His journey took a pivotal turn when the Leaches transitioned to become Foster Parents, extending their love and support to Jose and two other youths. In a heartwarming twist of fate, Jose found his forever family when the Leaches officially adopted him, marking the beginning of a new chapter filled with promise and opportunity.
The event was not just a celebration of Jose's accomplishments, but also a testament to the profound impact of mentorship, partnership and community support. Jose's dedication to giving back to his community through volunteering earned him the esteemed Youth Volunteer of the Year award. This distinguished title granted him a scholarship to use toward his future college tuition. His selfless contributions and commitment to making a difference serve as an inspiration to all.
