Cheers and excitement filled the stands as youth from Boys Town North Florida’s Family Home Program attended the Florida State University Softball Unite Game against local rival Florida A&M University on February 25.
It was especially memorable for Boys Town youth, Christian, who was selected to throw the first pitch. Christian has been part of Boys Town for over a year, and on that day, standing on the pitcher’s mound, all that mattered was focusing on the catcher’s glove and taking in a moment he’ll never forget.
To make things even more enjoyable for the youth, FSU Athletics sponsored free snacks and refreshments while sitting in the stands. It was a winning day for both the FSU Seminoles and Family Home Program youth and staff.
“It was a great day for the kids and something they will remember their whole lives,” said longtime Family-Teacher Aiysha. “We are forever thankful to FSU Athletics for the honor of being selected to attend the game at no cost. The youth loved the thrill of attending a college game and our attendance increased the organization’s visibility in the community.”
Both FSU and FAMU’s teams met with Boys Town youth after the game, spent time getting to know them, took photos and signed autographs.
We are grateful to FSU Athletics, FSU Softball and FAMU Softball for taking the time to create such a meaningful experience for the special youth here at Boys Town North Florida.
