Volunteering is often described as a gift of time and skills. But for some individuals, generosity does not stop there.
In November, new Boys Town volunteer Ramzi Rosario was awarded the Thamesh Ramjit Student Philanthropist of the Year award by the Florida State University Student Foundation at their annual Philanthropy Gala.
Traditionally, recipients of the award are allowed to donate a portion of the funds to a charity of their choice. On this occasion, Ramzi chose to allocate the funds he received to Boys Town North Florida. He said the choice was simple.
“I selected Boys Town because I believed the work Boys Town does to give children a second chance in a comfortable home setting is admirable and relevant to what the world needs,” he said. “To volunteer at Boys Town of North Florida is to support a mission to give kids a chance. A chance to grow into something bigger than their past traumas; a chance to enjoy childhood the way it should be and a chance to reunite with their families if conditions allow. It's the ultimate sacrifice, because there is no more innocent and undeserving a victim to hard times than a child, and there is nothing more important than making sure the next generation can flourish regardless of circumstance.”
Ramzi started his volunteer work with Boys Town in September, helping wherever he was needed, whether assisting with administrative work, supporting youth through academic tutoring, providing extra help at events, or donating free guitar lessons to a musically inclined Boys Town resident.
Ramzi saw firsthand how every dollar could make a difference in the life of a child. His contribution to serve acts as a reminder that generosity takes many forms. Ramzi’s donation of time, talent and treasure ensure that Boys Town’s meaningful work can continue.
