The Boys Town National Research Hospital made its first venture to New England in early April as certified audiologists were on-site with the Boys Town Research Vehicle providing free hearing screenings to the community. The screenings were a simple test to check out how well an individual hears and helps to identify whether you might have hearing loss that requires further evaluation.
Screenings were held at the Raices Dual Language Academy in Central Falls, RI the Cranston Early Learning Center in Cranston, RI and Kings Academy in Swansea, MA. Over 50 individuals were screened over the three-day period.
“Boys Town New England was so happy to welcome the staff and research vehicle from the Boys Town Hospital in Omaha,” Glenn Hofmann, Director of Fundraising said. “While most people are familiar with Boys Town because of our successful Family Home Program, there are many other programs and services that we provide. Bringing the research vehicle to New England is part of our continuing efforts to reach out to our community.”
Since its founding in 1977, Boys Town Hospital has been internationally recognized as a leader in clinical and research programs focusing on childhood deafness, language development and related communication disorders.
After a successful first visit, plans are already in place to have the research vehicle return next spring to additional New England communities.
