The holidays are a busy time for everyone, but Boys Town Nebraska/Iowa’s Foster Family Services was even busier than most over the holiday season. In December, they hosted multiple successful fundraising events, including a partnership with Warrior Fitness, a training center that specializes in high-intensity workouts.
Though it may seem like an unlikely collaboration, Warrior Fitness and Boys Town Nebraska/Iowa found their connection through Heather Korus, a Foster Family Services Consultant who also trains with Warrior Fitness. Last year the organization had their first annual Coat Drive, raising enough money to provide coats for many needy foster children in Omaha over the cold winter months.
This year, with Heather’s help, the organization teamed up with Boys Town to expand the event, setting the goal of providing a coat, hat, and gloves for every child in the foster care program. The drive was a total success.
Not only was a ‘Go Fund Me’ page used to collect donations, but an open house was held at Warrior Fitness on December 5 where donations were collected at the door. In addition, the organization received gifts throughout the month and used them to purchase the supplies which were delivered to the Foster Family Services office on December 18.
Not only did the organization give their all to make this drive a success, but they also had the support of boxing champion Terence Crawford, who works with them often. Crawford was involved throughout the event, and generously auctioned off one of his signed boxing gloves, offering all proceeds to the cause.
The Foster Family Services team is excited about this new effort and hopes to partner with Warrior Fitness again in years to come. From Boys Town to everyone involved in making this event a success: a huge thank you for helping keep our youth warm and safe this winter!
