The holidays are all about giving back.
To start this holiday season, Boys Town North Florida staff visited the Kearney Center, a 24-hour comprehensive emergency service center that provides overnight shelter and daytime services that connect clients with social service providers. The center provides the most basic needs (such as a warm shower, hot meal and clean clothes) alongside information and referrals to a variety of social service agencies in our community.
Boys Town staff helped prepare a holiday meal for the Kearney Center residents, including 6 turkeys.
“I was so happy to give back this holiday season,” said Boys Town staff member Ellyn Scanlan. “It can be such a busy time of year with so much to do. When I get caught up in busyness, I like to stop and give back. It helps me focus on what really matters.”
Boys Town staff donned hair nets and gloves to chop vegetables, open cans and season turkeys. The project was so well received by Kearney Center staff that Boys Town North Florida hopes to continue to support the mission in the future.
