Career Fair

Boys Town North Florida Hosts Career Fair For 25 Youth

Boys Town North Florida held a Career Fair at ART Town on Saturday, June 1, which attracted 25 youth.  The event was designed to expose kids to new professions they may not have previously considered.  Each of the eight organizations that attended the fair brought with them fun giveaways and informational material to engage youth and educate them about their career.

Lois Macfarlane, a local dental hygienist, educated youth on the importance of proper dental care while distributing toothbrushes and toothpaste to the career fair participants. Upon check in, youth were handed a “Career Fair Quiz,” which could be completed by receiving the answers from exhibitors. Youth visited each table, quizzing exhibitors about their chosen profession. Those who completed the quiz could select from an array of small incentives including M&M’s and Twix bars.

Woody Hayes, a local radio personality with 103.1 The Wolf, said, “It was a true blessing to be there and interact with the kids. I loved sharing with them how I got started in the radio business. Hopefully, I inspired them.”

One of the most popular tables was represented by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. Part of their display included a bear skin, alligator head and live baby alligator which guests could hold while its jaws were secured. Brave guests used two hands to handle the reptile at arm’s length.

The Florida State University College of Nursing, while not able to attend, donated practical items including chip clips and reusable straws. Several brochures about the nursing profession were handed out to the teens who attended.

Boys Town North Florida wishes to thank the exhibitors who presented as well as the volunteers who set up, facilitated and cleaned up afterwards. We are thankful for their role in helping shape the future of our Boys Town youth. The exhibitors were:
