J’Hara is a bright young girl carrying more than her share of challenges.
With her father absent from her life and her mother struggling with substance use, she has been living under the steady care of her grandmother. Even with this loving support, the weight of it all has been difficult for her to navigate.
Recently, Damien Jones from Boys Town North Florida’s Care Coordination Program stepped in to support J’Hara. The program’s mission is to ensure every child has a caring adult in their life and the resources they need to thrive.
When J’Hara’s school hosted an All-Pro Dad event—a celebration typically spent with a father or father figure—Damien attended by her side, giving her a presence of support and encouragement.
The day was full of smiles and excitement. And to top it off, J’Hara even won a gift card during the event. Afterward, Damien connected her with resources designed to help children cope with the absence of a parent, reinforcing that her feelings are valid and she is not alone.
Through small but meaningful moments like this, Boys Town’s Care Coordination Program helps children like J’Hara feel seen, supported and empowered to face life’s challenges.
