At Boys Town New England, the mission of helping children and families achieve their full potential is driven by dedicated professionals like Glenn Hofmann. Glenn’s journey to Boys Town is as inspiring as his work. With a rich background in sports and intercollegiate athletics administration, Glenn has always been passionate about mentoring and teaching. Here’s a closer look at the man behind Boys Town’s mission.
Glenn’s path to Boys Town New England began in the world of sports. As a high school student, Glenn was active in cross country, basketball and tennis, and he continued his athletic pursuits at St. Bonaventure University as a Division I tennis player.
His professional career initially focused on intercollegiate athletics administration, primarily in revenue generation. However, the pandemic prompted Glenn to reflect on his career goals and consider opportunities to make a broader impact. When the Director of Development position at Boys Town New England opened up three years ago, Glenn saw it as the perfect opportunity to combine his skills and passions.
Growing up as the oldest of six children, Glenn has always been drawn to teaching and mentoring. This passion is evident in his work at Boys Town, where he finds immense satisfaction in helping kids learn and reach their potential. “The mission at Boys Town aligns perfectly with my interests,” Glenn shares. “It is so gratifying to see kids learn and reach their potential, and if I can play even a small part in motivating them to make that happen, it makes all the time and energy spent with each kid worth it.”
As the Director of Development, Glenn’s role revolves around two key areas: revenue generation and community engagement. He believes that these two aspects go hand-in-hand. “The more people who are aware of and understand the Boys Town mission and the impact we make, the more likely they are to support our efforts financially,” Glenn explains. Glenn thrives on sharing Boys Town’s success stories with individuals, businesses and foundations, helping to foster a supportive community around the organization.
One of Glenn’s proudest accomplishments at Boys Town is the increased understanding and appreciation of fundraising within the organization. He acknowledges that fundraising often carries a negative connotation, but he has worked hard to change that perception. The staff’s enthusiasm and support for initiatives like the annual 401 Gives Campaign have been particularly rewarding for Glenn.
Outside of his professional responsibilities, Glenn is an avid fitness enthusiast. He starts his day at 5:00 a.m. with activities like swimming, high-intensity cardio workouts or running. A lifelong sports fan, Glenn follows the Baltimore Orioles and the New England Patriots. Additionally, he shares his love for teaching and mentoring as an adjunct professor at Southern New Hampshire University.
Glenn dedication and passion for the mission of Boys Town New England shine through in his work and his personal life. His journey from sports administration to non-profit development serves as an inspiring reminder that the journeys of those who work at Boys Town can take many different routes.
