The Kent County Courthouse in Warwick, Rhode Island was filled with excitement and hope on Saturday, November 22, as Rhode Island celebrated its 22nd annual National Adoption Day. Boys Town New England was proud to stand alongside families, community partners and Family Court leaders to honor the children whose lives were forever changed through adoption, including several of our own Boys Town families.
Among them were Elizabeth Bochichio and her son, Xavier, who have been part of the Boys Town New England community since the very start of their foster care journey. Over the past four and a half years, Xavier has grown and thrived in Elizabeth’s care, with Boys Town New England supporting them every step of the way.
Families from across the state filled the courthouse that morning, joined by their children, caseworkers and loved ones. The building was alive with emotion, kids dressed up for the occasion, families carrying flowers and everyone eagerly waiting for the moment their adoption became official.
Judge Karen Lynch Bernard presided over the proceedings with her signature warmth and compassion, making each adoption feel personal and deeply meaningful. With every case she finalized, the courtroom erupted in cheers, clapping and happy tears, reflecting just how life-changing the day was for each family.
National Adoption Day is always a meaningful milestone for Boys Town New England, but this year carried special significance. Watching Elizabeth and Xavier become a forever family underscored the heart of our mission: supporting foster parents, guiding children through transitions and helping families build safe, loving, permanent homes.
As families left the courthouse holding adoption certificates and with their hearts full, the atmosphere was filled with a sense of possibility. For Elizabeth and Xavier and for every family who finalized their adoption, November 22 will always mark the start of a new chapter.
