Children's Week in Carson City: A Heartfelt Recap

Boys Town Nevada’s Executive Director John Etzell, Program Director Caitlin Stapley, Behavioral Health Clinic Director Dr. Tara Borsh and Boys Town’s Advocacy & Policy Advisor Kichelle Coleman had the privilege of attending Children's Week, March 10-13, in Carson City.

Held during Nevada’s 2025 legislation session, this event was a resounding success -- bringing together advocates, families and policymakers to champion the well-being of Nevada’s children. With the support from board member Debra March, Jennifer Bradley from JB Public Relations, and lobbyists Lea Cartwright and Sabrina Schnur, Boys Town Nevada was able to foster old and new relationships with the hard-working legislature representatives of Nevada.

Throughout Children’s Week, our Boys Town Nevada team had the opportunity to meet with 53 legislators, educating them on children, families and schools we serve in their respective jurisdictions. Alongside individual meetings with legislators, Boys Town Nevada testified in support of three bills aimed at promoting the safety, well-being and permanency of children.

The organization was honored to be introduced on the Senate floor by Senator Shelly Cruz-Crawford (watch here). Boys Town Nevada continued its outreach as we hosted an open house for legislators on Thursday night, enjoying time connecting with Nevada representatives outside the legislative building.

Children also had a wonderful time during the week, participating in activities and entertainment designed to educate and inspire. Executive Director John Etzell even taught attending children how to juggle!

Children's Week was a powerful reminder of the importance of advocacy and community involvement. By coming together, we raised awareness about critical issues, hoping to influence policy decisions that will benefit Nevada's children for years to come.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who participated and contributed to the success of Children's Week, and to The Nevada Institute for Children's Research and Policy (NICRP) and Children’s Advocacy Alliance for hosting such a meaningful event. Their dedication and passion are what make events like this possible. Together, we are making a difference in the lives of Nevada's children.
