Spotlight on Leadership: Cliff Buller, Incoming Board President

This July, Boys Town Louisiana will welcome Cliff Buller as its new Board President, a natural next step for someone whose commitment to the mission spans nearly two decades.

Cliff officially joined the Boys Town Louisiana Board of Directors in 2016, but his involvement began much earlier. “I first got involved around 2005,” he recalls. “I was working at Whitney Bank, and one of my clients at the time was on the Boys Town board. He asked if the bank would sponsor an event, and we did. That was my first introduction to the mission, and I’ve stayed connected ever since.”

That early interest evolved into deeper involvement: supporting events, getting to know the staff and eventually joining the board. Since then, Cliff has been a steady and thoughtful presence, helping guide the organization’s growth and adaptability over the years.

A Strong Foundation for Service

Cliff grew up in the New Orleans area as the fourth of five children in what he describes as a “very loving and supportive family.” His parents worked hard to give their children access to strong educational opportunities and a stable upbringing -- something he’s never taken for granted.

“I realized I had a solid foundation,” he says. “And I knew not every child has that. I’ve always felt a sense of obligation -- those of us who can help, should help.”

That belief in giving back is what drives his continued dedication to Boys Town. “When I saw the work being done for youth and families in our community, I knew I wanted to be part of it.”

Guiding with Flexibility and Vision

When asked what stands out most about Boys Town Louisiana’s impact, Cliff points to its ability to evolve based on real needs.

“As we serve youth, we also serve families. And we’ve learned to identify needs as they arise and adapt our programs accordingly. That flexibility --  being able to offer holistic support to the entire family -- is what makes Boys Town Louisiana unique.”

He notes that while many organizations do excellent work within narrow focus areas, Boys Town’s willingness to extend support across the full spectrum of need is what sets it apart. “We don’t just offer one kind of help,” he said “We throw a safety net around the whole family, and we keep that net flexible.”

Looking Ahead: A Vision for Growth

As he prepares to step into the role of Board President, Cliff is focused on growth and long-term sustainability.

“I want to see continued progress -- not just in expanding our services, but in making sure we’re using every program to its fullest potential. I’m also really looking forward to engaging more on the development side, especially building relationships with potential donors.”

A Call to Action

Cliff’s message to the community is a simple but powerful one: notice, and act.

“Not everyone is starting from the same place in life,” he said. “If you’re in a position to help someone -- do it. Whether that’s with your time, your resources or just showing up for someone who needs support, we all have a role to play in building people up.”

As Cliff takes on this new leadership role, we are deeply grateful for his unwavering belief in the mission, and for the compassion and clarity he brings to the work ahead.
