On January 11, employees from Boys Town Nevada participated in the Embracing Project 'Through Their Eyes' Festival and 5k Run/Walk.

The Embracing Project is a non-profit in Las Vegas, Nevada founded by Esther Rodriguez Brown. The mission of the organization is to promote peace and healing for children and youth victims/survivors of sexual exploitation, sex trafficking, and violence through the development of specialized programs, trauma-informed care, and unconditional support.

Boys Town Nevada had five employees participate in the event. The Boys Town employees that participated included John Etzell, Executive Director; Danelis Acosta, Common Sense Parenting Supervisor; Mary Fridman, Parent Trainer; Natalie Albertson, Business Office Specialist; and Caitlin Stapley, Director of Community Support Services.

"January 11th was Human Trafficking Awareness Day and here in Las Vegas, that is a major issue," said John Etzell. This event was aimed at raising awareness around the issue of human trafficking, paths to exploitation, and services available to victims and survivors of trafficking. Throughout the course there were different posters with quotes from victims as a powerful reminder of what these children and young adults have gone through and how the Embracing Project has helped in the hard recovery process. The event also featured activities as well as guest speakers, including representatives of Congressman Steve Horsford and Congresswoman Dina Titus.

This was a fun way for Boys Town Nevada employees to compete against each other but at the same time support another non-profit in the Las Vegas community. "As part of our team building efforts at the site, suggestions for volunteer opportunities, outings, and fun events are encouraged as a way to get to know staff members and give back to the community," said Etzell. "Boys Town Nevada wants to be a good community partner, and that begins with supporting other great organizations. A big thanks to Caitlin for bringing this organization and cause to our attention!"

Thank you to Boys Town Nevada for giving back to other organizations in Las Vegas and congratulations to the employees who finished the 'Through Their Eyes' 5k!
