Boys Town Louisiana Host 1st Annual Spirit of Youth Awards

On October 1st, Board Members and donors gathered at the Louisiana Children's Museum to celebrate the accomplishments of Boys Town Louisiana's residential youth.

Looking their best, youth from the Family Homes and Intervention & Assessment (I&A) Shelter received a total of 36 awards, including Most Considerate, Set for Success, Upward Bound, and Youth of the Year, among others. Awards were presented by Rashain Carriere-Williams, Executive Director; Bruce Petrie, Sr. Director of Program Operations; and Lawrence Budget, Director of I&A.

While the night was about celebrating the youth, Boys Town Louisiana also presented its first annual Spirit of Youth award. This award honors someone who has exemplified Boys Town's mission in our community – and who has a love for those we serve. Anne Doussan Chiang, Chair of the Board of Directors, presented the award to Tim Thomas. Tim was a board member from 2012 until just this year, serving as Chair from 2018 – 2020. As a committed volunteer, he has raised thousands of dollars, given countless hours of time, and directly volunteered with families.

In addition to the awards, youth and guests enjoyed New Orleans artist John Bukaty as he painted an incredible piece of art live during the program. John also spoke to the youth about taking advantage of second chances and the importance of leveraging relationships to support personal growth and development.

Boys Town Louisiana would like to thank everyone who attended the event and would like to extend a special thanks to Home Bank and Baptist Community Ministries for sponsoring the event.
