Jarred Fraser Sr. has been on a journey to get his family back. The children had been living with their biological mother. He described what it was like without his kids around.
"Hard. Lonely," Fraser said. "Just not having the kids there to keep you company and be a dad."
When the mother could no longer take care of them, he got custody of the two boys. But things became complicated when he tried to adopt 9-year-old Danika. While Danika and the boys share a mother, she's not biologically related to Fraser. He did everything he could to prove to the state that with him was the best place for her, including remodeling.
"I built Danika a room on the extension of our house," Frasier said.
He finally won custody, and now they're all together.
"When I first knew that I had a dad, I was super excited," Danika said. Danika and her brothers are thankful.
"It made me so happy because Danika and I play Roblox at the same time," said another of the children. Fraser said things are great.
"It's awesome waking up every morning to them," Fraser said.
This was not easy for Fraser and his family. But luckily, they didn't have to face it alone. They had Boys Town. Boys Town provides support, counseling and parenting advice. Marcy Shyllon is the executive director.
"Boys Town is a treasure because we don't care where on the spectrum you are, where on the continuum you are. We care that you need help, and we are determined to get you that help," Shyllon said.
It's been a team effort with Boys Town, Fraser, the children, the children's grandmother, Denise, all committed to working together to be the best family they can be.
"Just keep your head up and keep going. Just keep the fight up. Never quit," Fraser said.
