Home Away From Home
On September 4, 2021, after having to quickly evacuate their homes in New Orleans because of Hurricane Ida, 24 youth and 21 staff members from Boys Town Louisiana arrived at our Home Campus in Omaha, Nebraska. Arriving late Friday night, they were greeted with fun sidewalk designs by our campus kids!
Thanks to generous donors, we were able to provide them with items like tennis shoes, clothing, backpacks and other basic-living necessities they couldn't pack when they were quickly evacuated and relocated. While at our Home Campus and when the children weren't in school, they had the opportunity to explore some fun activities in the Omaha area, including the Henry Doorly Zoo and a Omaha Storm Chasers game. Everyone on Home Campus – youth and staff – welcomed those from Louisiana with open arms to give them a much-needed reprieve during an adverse time in their lives.
"I love it here, I love Boys Town!"
- Rebecca, a Boys Town Louisiana youth said about her time in Omaha.
We are excited to report after a month in Omaha, our kids and staff members are heading home for Louisiana! The Family Homes in New Orleans have electricity restored and the fridges have been stocked.
Community Strong
Many of the families we serve through In-Home Family Services, Care Coordination Services and our Early Head Start program have remained in Louisiana, displaced from their homes and in need of extra support. Once again, donors and volunteers stepped up and we were able to serve those in the community by providing food, clothing and other necessities.
We could not have done all of this without the support of loyal Boys Town donors and friends and for that we are eternally grateful!
