Brandi and Friends

A Walk Down Memory Lane with Boys Town Alumni

When Brandi lost her mom at 14, her world fell apart.

At Boys Town, she found a family waiting to catch her. Her housemates became sisters, and their home became a place where she could laugh again, heal, and reclaim her childhood.

Years later, Brandi learned she carried the same breast cancer gene as her mother. In a moment that felt like fate, she met Denise, a longtime Boys Town employee who shared the same gene. Their connection grew into friendship and hope, reminding Brandi that no one has to face hard news alone.

Inspired by her journey, Brandi founded the Hereditary Cancer Foundation at just 26. Today, she supports others who face genetic cancer risks, offering the same strength and compassion that once lifted her.

Her story shows how one life saved at Boys Town can change countless others.

Hi. Hi. Hi. Oh, so good to see you. Hi. How are you guys? Good. Good. Well, thanks for coming. Of Course.

Let's go chat. Let's Do it. I always reflect back on Boys Town in such a positive light. I really loved being here.

I loved my housemates, I loved my teachers. I love everything that they do for kids. Like, it's just an amazing place.

And I'm so glad that I was here. It shined so much light into my life that I, it was what I needed because I didn't have that at home. And my kids now have it at home. I think Boys Town gave me the opportunity to be a kid again.

Like when life was really, really heavy. Coming here gave me the opportunity to just worry about kid things and be a kid and have a childhood again.

1, 3, 9, 7. One plan again. Apartment number 1 0 1. This is home. This is where we took our prom picture. Yes. Right here. We used to line up and get ready for church. We’d walk over with the neighbors. Memorial Day, I think was like the best day ever because every single apartment, like all the family teachers, everybody was out here with a grill.

Everybody sharing food school’s out. Like, I don’t know what you guys wanna see out of this one. ‘Because this is like everybody, why did I always dress like I was 40? We all dressed like we were 40.

How often do you get to look back 20 years later and be like, I’m still friends with them.

You know, I just sent them a video that said, um, we were girls together. How special is that? Like you’ll always be a part of who I am no matter where I go.

My mom had cancer, um, and I, I reached out to Brandy because I knew that was her specialty and she met up with me and she made my mom a basket and she reassured me like, these doctors are really good doctors. Just trust them. Just uplifted my mom’s spirit. And so when, when I saw we can call on each other for just about anything, we definitely can.

I think when you’re healing yourself, you realize that helping others really helps heal you. And so like that’s one reason, like I’ve kept giving back and I know like you two, like I think that that can be said for you guys.

Keep giving back, keep showing up, showing up for our friends when we need to. And I could call these girls with anything and they would drop whatever and be there in a second. Oh, I was trouble. Who knows what I’d be doing. I mean, I wouldn’t have gone to college. I

wouldn’t have done all the things I’ve done if I wasn’t here. I don’t even want to know where I’d be. I don’t think I would’ve ever graduated high school.

I don’t think I would’ve ever graduated college, but now I’m just like, I wouldn’t have been able to do anything if I would’ve stayed at home, it would’ve been just rough for me.

Yeah, I don’t know. I think I just was really broken and angry and I don’t know, like when I would’ve gotten over that if I ever would’ve, you know, I just think Boys Town really helped me, like put life in into perspective.

We still get up like moms do every morning and, and live our happy lives, but we just love the fact that our kids are healed because we are healed no matter what we’ve gone through.

Thank you guys for coming back to Boys Town and going down together. It was really great to see you guys. I love ya’ll. I love, love you. Thanks so much for having us. Aw. You can always be like home, right? It’s always home. I love.
