Passage of Senate Bill 165 Will Expand Mental Health Services in Nevada

Boys Town Nevada is proud to celebrate the passage of Senate Bill 165 (SB165), a groundbreaking initiative that will expand mental health services and create new opportunities for psychology students and interns in Nevada. This legislation, championed by City Councilman Brian Knudsen and Dr. Tara Raines, establishes a program designed to train and retain mental health professionals, addressing a critical shortage in the state.

The program will allow students and interns to gain hands-on experience and transition into full-time roles, ensuring Nevada families have access to quality care.

John Etzell, Executive Director of Boys Town Nevada, shared his excitement:

“Boys Town Nevada has been a proud supporter of SB165 and the improvement of mental health services in the state from the beginning of the process with City Councilman Brian Knudsen and Dr. Tara Raines. From testifying in support of the bill, to eventually having the chance to hire these future employees, we are committed to keeping good talent in the state of Nevada. We are excited to see the students and the psychology interns be part of the fabric of the social services network of support in the community. When the first cohort of students graduate, we look forward to hiring them into positions to use their new skills to help kids and families.”

This collaborative effort between policymakers, educators and community organizations marks a significant step toward improving mental health care in Nevada.
