On February 28, 2018, Boys Town Nevada held "Saddle Up and Help Our Kids", an event at Stoney's Rockin' Country in support of the Latin School Initiative. During the evening, guests were able to participate in a fun-filled western theme with great music, line-dancing lessons, western dinner and a mechanical bull.
While the event was a way for the Nevada and Boys Town community to have a special night out, it was also a chance for the Nevada site to share with friends new and old, about how important donations are for the youth and what still needs to be done. "People often don't understand raising money for In-Home Family Services or Care Coordination, but they understand that when things aren't stable at home, kids cannot fully benefit from what they're learning in school," said Executive Director, Denise Biben.
Creating a healthy environment for the youth and giving them the support they need to excel is crucial for learning in the classroom and Boys Town Nevada hopes that the more awareness they bring to the community, the more lives they can help. Last year, the school initiative served 750 children through fundraising alone, which is just under one-third of the entire number of kids served at the site.
The donations and support "Saddle up and Help Our Kids" received from the generous attendees, is one more step in making a difference for children and families. "In total, we raised just under $9,000, but more importantly we made new friends who will hopefully become ambassadors for the work we do," said Biben.
