Boys Town Iowa’s Amber Gonzalez has been a Family Visitation Specialist for six months and has quickly become an integral part of supporting positive family interactions and reunification efforts.
Gonzalez consistently demonstrates exceptional dedication by carefully coordinating visitation schedules around parents’ work and treatment commitments, as well as children’s school, nap and mealtime routines. She helps families plan meaningful activities, provides necessary supplies to meet the children's needs and actively encourages parents to remain engaged and present during visits.
One of her most significant successes involved supporting a mother working toward reunification with her three children while receiving inpatient treatment. Gonzalez successfully gathered and provided the documentation required to support placement of the children with their mother. Throughout the case, she transported the children every other Saturday for visits, driving a six-hour round trip and facilitating four-hour visits with their mother. In addition, she assisted the mother in obtaining the supplies necessary to meet her children’s needs during these interactions.
Through her detailed documentation, consistent communication and accurate reporting to Iowa HHS, Gonzalez played a key role in demonstrating the family’s progress. Her efforts contributed to the children being placed with their mother and supported the approval of unsupervised parenting time with their father. Her commitment, perseverance and family-centered approach have had a meaningful impact on this family’s successful reunification journey.
