The following is part of our Centennial Timeline Series, providing historical insight into each decade of Boys Town's history. As was the case with the nation, Boys Town underwent many changes between 1957 and 1967. Boys Town athletic teams saw great success, and the campus had visits from foreign heads of state and the U.S. vice president.
In 1957, Boys Town began to receive national recognition and iconic visitors who were eager to learn about the village. Indira Gandhi, the future prime minister of India, visited Boys Town; the Boys Town Choir recorded an album with the Everly Brothers; and Vice President Hubert Humphrey visited the village and delivered the commencement address to graduates during Boys Town's 50th anniversary.
Along with these very special guests, the Boys Town Cowboys basketball team won its second straight basketball championship and the entire village celebrated a momentous win and decade.
