If you’re planning a road trip to Omaha, Neb., make sure to mark an afternoon off for Boys Town and let your kids experience what makes Boys Town unique. John Sennert, Boys Town Gift Shop Manager, shares some insights on what to see and do when you get here.
1. The World’s Largest Stamp
BallThe World’s Largest Stamp Ball is a favorite with children and adults alike and everyone gets their photo taken with it. Children can go through our “penny bin” and pick out colorful stamps for their own collections.
2. “Best Picture”
Oscar Spencer Tracy gave his “Best Actor” Oscar to Boys Town Founder Father Flanagan for his portrayal of the Reverend in the 1938 classic “Boys Town”. We invite you to see it for yourself and experience all the award-winning Hall of History has to offer.
3. Boys Town PylonFather
Flanagan designed the large stone Pylon to sit at the entrance to the village. In the early years of the Home, many children walked to Boys Town. Father Flanagan wanted them to know they had made it to their new home. Today, it’s a favorite for visitors to stop and take a selfie.
4. The Lake
Home to hundreds of geese, fish and other animals, your kids will love seeing wildlife up close if you walk around the Boys Town lake. We’re told often how refreshing it is for a visitor to sit by the lake.
Regardless of what you and your family choose to see and do at Boys Town, it will be the purpose of the place that will leave you in awe. When you visit the Village, you’ll get an unforgettable glimpse into the history of an organization that has given new hope to so many at-risk children over the past 100 years. We hope you’ll stop by soon.
