Boys Town youth were among the first to see the designs for three commemorative coins being released by the United States Mint in honor of Boys Town.
The designs were revealed just a little over a year after the Boys Town Centennial Commemorative Coin Act (Public Law 114-30) was signed into law by President Obama on July 5, 2015. The three coins, a $5 gold, a silver dollar and a half dollar clad, will be minted and issued by the United States Mint and will be available to purchase in early 2017.
This past March, 45 designs went under review by a key advisory committee. While the Secretary of the Treasury made the final decisions on coin designs, Father Boes, the National Executive Director of Boys Town, was consulted to ensure the legacy of Boys Town is accurately and reverently portrayed.
We are extremely appreciative of all of those individuals who worked so diligently to make this a reality. We can think of no better way to honor the 100 th anniversary of Father Flanagan’s dream.
