Typically, this is the time of year when kids are itching to put the school year behind them, ditch the books and chill for the summer. Maintaining their attention and focus during those last weeks of the academic year was largely the responsibility of their teachers.
Now, it’s mostly on you.
Are you ready to handle the pent-up frustration your kids have about being stuck in the house, having you as a stand-in teacher, not knowing when “normal” is coming back and wanting summer break to start NOW?
When stay-at-home and school-from-home began, we encouraged you to maintain routines and use consequences to reinforce your expectations. Continue to do that, and you should be able to keep your kids mostly on track. And if you add one or more of these strategies, your kids can finish the school year strong!
