Thomas Found His Family at Boys Town
Thomas grew up in Washington, DC, and just before his 11th birthday, he was shot in the shoulder and spine and barely survived.
He came to Boys Town at 16. He still remembers walking up to what he calls a "Harry Potter-looking house," nervous, having never lived in a group home. He was greeted with love. That night, he sat down to his first dinner at a family table and saw, for the first time, what a family couple looked like.
Thomas healed. He earned a degree in psychology and then a master's. Today he is back at Boys Town Louisiana as Director of Community Support Services, a youth advocate guiding the next child through the same doors that opened for him.
