What if my child is indifferent or uncaring after a crisis?

Sometimes when children go through a crisis they might respond as if they don't care, like they are indifferent. Developmentally that might be totally appropriate and parents shouldn't get themselves upset about it. Kids are going to respond differently and it might take a little time for them to process what has occurred, whether it is a divorce or the loss of a family member.

So after a while you might want to revisit it and just be available. Maybe monitor them to see that they are okay. Don’t be shocked if they seem to act like the crisis they went through isn't bothering them at all, or that they might respond in a way that you don't feel comfortable with. Just give them time.
