How Can I Start Teaching my Toddler Independence?

View Transcript

As they start to grow from infants into toddlers, it's hard to sometimes notice that you're doing a lot of these tasks for your child. A lot of times it's out of convenience, because if I'm dressing you, it get's done faster. If I pick up after you or clean up after you, then I avoid a temper tantrum. And not only am I avoiding your distress, but I'm avoiding my own distress, And so sometimes, it's about noticing what they could be doing independently, and then again, coping with your own distress and modeling good coping skills for your kid.
