Every year, millions of children across America suffer some kind of physical or emotional abuse. Oftentimes, this abuse results from parents or other caregivers getting angry and losing self-control because they don’t have strategies for staying calm when a child misbehaves.

Boys Town knows a lot about the abuse and neglect of children. Every year, 42% of the girls and boys who receive Boys Town services have been abused or neglected.

Now Boys Town is reaching out in a national effort to help parents keep their cool while teaching their kids to do the same.

Skill Building Series

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month. Boys Town will be presenting a Skill Building Series for Parents on Calm Parenting. Each of these feature Boys Town experts and provide useful strategies for Parents to use for themselves and to use for their children to stay calm when emotions run high.

HELP FAMILIES BY GIVING THEM THE GIFT OF CALM PARENTING!

As part of our national effort to help parents keep their cool while teaching their kids to do the same, we are sending out calm down kits to families in need. Supporting this effort is a simple way for you to make a difference during Child Abuse Prevention Month!

When you donate $10 to Boys Town, we will provide a family with a Calm Down Kit of their own. These kits are filled with proven strategies for handling emotional or hectic situations in a cool, calm, and collected way. If you double your gift to $20, we’ll send you a Calm Down Kit too!

Help families learn to reduce angry outbursts by using simple calming strategies. When parents can stay calm and put their emotions aside, it’s easier for them to teach their children appropriate behaviors, give reasonable consequences and effectively discipline without raising their hand or their voice.
