Boys Town's Common Sense Parenting® (CSP) helps parents build on the skills and strengths they already have while teaching new, proven strategies for raising happier, more well-behaved kids.
Our parenting program has received a rating of 2 from the California Evidence-Based Clearinghouse for Child Welfare, meaning that it is:
- Supported by research evidence
- Superior when compared to other parenting programs
- Structured to produce positive, lasting outcomes
The key to this program's success is the dedication and expertise of Common Sense Parenting Parent Trainers, who present classes in schools, churches and other community settings. Boys Town Iowa is looking for people who want to share their time and talents to help children and families as a Common Sense Parenting Parent Trainer.
Two Training Options for CSP Parent Trainers

THREE-DAY
TRAINING:Common Sense Parenting for Parents of School-Aged Children
This training enables you to teach parents positive discipline strategies designed specifically for children ages 6-16. -
FIVE-DAY TRAINING:Training in both Common Sense Parenting for Parents of School-Aged Children and Common Sense Parenting for Parents of Toddlers and Preschoolers
This training enables you to teach parents positive discipline strategies for children ages 2-16.
Both feature a complete curriculum and a wide range of materials, and include interactive instruction, video examples, parenting skill practice (role-play), and activities and exercises. This positive approach to parenting is based on Boys Town's more than 100 years of experience in caring for children and the research-proven Boys Town Model®.
Training is available every few months.
Comprehensive Training
Our Training of Trainer classes offer a fun, exciting and inspiring introduction to our Common Sense Parenting program, and fully prepare you to plan, organize and present Common Sense Parenting classes as a professional trainer. Training classes feature:
- Extensive discussion, feedback and skill practice
- Video examples and demonstrations
- Instruction in how to use the Common Sense Parenting curriculum and class materials
- Authorization as a Common Sense Parenting trainer
- Support in organizing and promoting your classes
NOTE: Common Sense Parenting Parent Trainers present CSP classes independently and are not employees of Boys Town.
