Back-to-School, Healing Families

backtoschool2.jpgHundreds of students and parents got a jump on the upcoming school year by attending Boys Town Nevada's Back-to-School Event. At the July 17 get-together, co-hosted by Health Plan of Nevada, Silver Summit and Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, attendees enjoyed free resources and information from community partners, games, food and giveaways. Many students and parents took advantage of the Health Plan of Nevada's Mobile Health Clinic, which provided well-child screenings and immunizations that are typically mandatory for school enrollment. Thanks to generous donations from Health Plan of Nevada, Human Behavior Institute, Assemblywoman Danielle Monroe-Moreno, Assemblywoman Bea Duran and Assemblyman Edgar Flores, Boys Town was able to hand out nearly 400 backpacks to families in need in just under two hours.

The enormous turnout for the event indicated the great need in the community for free school supplies. In an effort to ensure that children in the community have the tools they need, Boys Town Nevada will continue to accept donations of backpacks and school supplies and will partner with the schools we work with to provide them to students throughout the school year.
