A Helping Hand to Start off on the Right Foot

Boy working on a wall The Trade LifeSM aftercare program is for young adults who have graduated from Boys Town High School and had experience in the Career Center curriculum. Participants begin receiving enhanced senior planning instruction in preparation for graduation, as well as emotional support, career guidance, financial support and help in making decisions. Graduates who have little or no family or other support are given priority.

Graduates may continue the program for up to five years after graduation, when they become eligible for services from the Boys Town National Alumni Association®.

Trade Life Program Mentors

Program mentors maintain strong relationships and consistent contact with the young adult participants. They also provide incentives and motivation for the young adults to work toward several success factors such as:

  • Maintaining safe housing
  • Postponing parenthood
  • Continuing employment and/or education for at least 30 hours per week
  • Participating in the community through work, church or other organizations
  • Staying out of trouble with the law

"Check and Connects"

In addition, program participants participate in Boys Town's "Check and Connects" program, which is the primary intervention for continuing rapport, maintaining communication and reducing impulsive decision-making. "Check and Connects" involves communication through phone calls and biweekly meetings.
