Washington, D.C., Campus Receives Spring Spruce Up
After a long and snowy winter, the Boys Town Washington, D.C., campus is getting spruced up thanks to three local organizations whose volunteers are making sure D.C. youth have a beautiful place to call home.
Throughout the month of April, the District of Columbia Water and Sewer Authority (DC WASA), The Ritz Carlton, and Greater DC Cares are joining Boys Town Washington, D.C., for special service days to help give the campus an outdoor makeover.
“The entire Boys Town Washington, D.C., family is thankful for the willingness of these three organizations to volunteer their time and talents to make our campus beautiful,” said Jeff Peterson, Boys Town Washington, D.C., Executive Director. “The youth can’t wait to see the changes and additions to the campus.”
DC WASA was the first to get their hands dirty when more than 50 employees spent the morning of April 9 at the Washington, D.C., campus gardening, planting trees and shrubs, renovating rock beds, raking and many other landscaping activities.
“The landscaping looks amazing,” said Tosha Roundtree, Boys Town Washington, D.C., Development Director. “DC WASA really came out in full force to help us make our campus more green and vibrant.”
The outdoor improvements will continue when employees of the Ritz Carlton lend their green thumb for landscaping projects and the beginnings of a vegetable garden on April 17, and Greater DC Cares brings their hammers and nails April 24 to build picnic tables, benches and a sand volleyball court for the youth to enjoy.
“We value the partnerships with these community-minded organizations immensely and we couldn’t be more grateful for their help,” said Peterson. “Boys Town youth, both current and future will enjoy the fruits of their labor for a long time.”
