Boys Town Youth Plant Seeds of Hope

Boys Town Washington, D.C., youth and families dug in to Earth Day with the second annual “Planting the Seeds of Hope” event April 19.

With shovels, wheelbarrows, rakes, garden gloves and seeds, a group of volunteers helped Boys Town Washington, D.C., youth and families kick off Earth Day. The second annual “Planting the Seeds of Hope” event at the Boys Town campus April 19 provided an opportunity to learn about the environment and beautify the campus.

“Having volunteers from the Malcolm Bridge Quest for Excellence Conference and staff from The Ritz-Carlton here to improve our campus was an enriching experience for everyone involved,” said Jeff Peterson, Boys Town Washington, D.C. Executive Director. “Our families and employees not only enjoyed the day, but will continue to benefit from the improvements made to our campus.”

Boys Town Youth, families and staff worked together with volunteers to create a vegetable garden and spruce up the campus’ Circle of Hope garden, located in the center of the cul-de-sac between the four homes. During the process, the group learned about the importance of caring for the environment as well as the benefits of nature.

“Our ongoing partnership with The Ritz-Carlton has been rewarding for our youth and staff,” said Peterson. “It’s always great for our supporters to see firsthand how Boys Town works, and I know the corporate volunteers were impressed with our model of care, and our commitment to excellence in serving our children, youth and families.”
