Boys Town Washington, D.C. Receives $25,000 Grant from Fannie Mae

Intervention and Assessment Shelter

The Boys Town Washington, D.C. Intervention and Assessment program received a much needed “new year” boost with a $25,000 grant from Fannie Mae.

“Fannie Mae is pleased to support Boys Town Washington, D.C. in its effort to provide transitional housing and supportive services for homeless youth or youth at-risk of becoming homeless in the metropolitan area,” said LaKish Cox, who works in Fannie Mae’s Office of Community and Charitable Giving.

The unexpected gift came after a representative from Fannie Mae visited Boys Town Washington D.C.’s campus and toured the Intervention and Assessment program shelter.

This shelter is for those youth in need of immediate help, many of whom are homeless. In 2009, 88 kids received help at the shelter and that number increased to 150 in 2010. As the need continues to increase, the funding has not, making this $25,000 grant a New Year miracle.

“We are thrilled with the support we are receiving from Fannie Mae,” said Jeff Peterson, Boys Town Washington, D.C. Executive Director. “We are seeing more youth coming into care with inadequate home environments and the financial support from Fannie Mae will help us serve more of these children in 2011.”
