Boys Town D.C. Gathers Community for Tree Lighting, Caroling

Boys Town D.C. might not be getting a White Christmas this year, but it’s sure been getting a lot of rain! However, that didn’t stop supporters from getting together and celebrating a kickoff to the campus’ holiday season with its 17th annual Tree Lighting event.

Approximately 30 people gathered on December 7 to welcome in the holidays with music, food and merriment in the campus shelter. Also present were guests Debra Porchia-Usher, the former Interim Director of Child and Family Services, and David Berns, the Director of D.C. Human Services.

Everyone enjoyed hot apple cider and hot chocolate, appetizers, and Christmas carols while the two trees were decorated and lit, one outside on the grounds and one inside the shelter. The most exciting part of the evening came though when one deserving family from the Family Home Treatment program was selected to receive a holiday basket to help them through the season.

“It is at this time of year that we are able to gather with our loved ones and remember what truly important in our lives,” said Tosha Roundtree, Development Director of Boys Town D.C.
