Boys Town Texas Youth Say “Thank You” with Volunteer Work

Andy and Angie Guzman, Boys Town Texas Family-Teachers, saw their family values put into action when the six boys living with them spent long hours volunteering at Alamo Heights Methodist Church in San Antonio, Texas, because they chose to.
“The youth decided to do this volunteer work because they have been looking for a way to help and bless others for the blessings they have received through Boys Town,” said Angie Guzman.
The Guzman’s six boys arrived at Alamo Heights Methodist Church expecting to unload a truckload of pumpkins, however, there was a delay and the pumpkins were not going to arrive at the church until the following day. Instead of just leaving, the boys helped the other volunteers clean the church top to bottom.
The following day, the boys returned to the church to find they were the only volunteers there to unload a truckload of pumpkins. The boys vigorously unloaded the hundreds of pumpkins and when told they could leave, the boys said they wanted to stay until each pumpkin was unloaded.
“We were so moved by them because our boys made up, at times, half the work force or all,” said Andy Guzman. “They really worked as a team and did not want to let anyone down because they saw help was needed.”
“We are so very proud of those boys because they are always first to volunteer when something like this comes up,” said Maria Benavides, Boys Town Texas Residential Consultant. “It is truly a testament to the work their Family-Teachers are doing with them.”
