Boys Town Texas to Provide Mental Health Services to Community Through Grant

Recognizing the need for children and families to have more access to behavioral and mental health care, the Baptist Health Foundation of San Antonio awarded Boys Town Texas a $200,000 grant to start a new Outpatient Behavioral Health Service.

“Child abuse and mental health problems are issues of high incidence in the San Antonio community and surrounding areas, and are frequently interconnected,” said Janie Cook, Boys Town Texas Executive Director. “Research has proven that children with behavioral needs are at a higher risk for physical abuse.”

Boys Town Texas Outpatient Child and Family Services clinicians will work with youth ages six months to 18 years and their families. These children face many challenges, including Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), bed-wetting and soiling, anger management, and bedtime problems among many others. Psychologists and therapists will work with families, primary-care physicians, teachers, and other professionals to extend care beyond the “therapy hour” and ensure long-term success. Clients will be referred from community pediatricians, schools, other service providers and the community at-large.

“We are extremely excited to begin an Outpatient Behavioral Health program in Texas,” said Cook. “This will greatly enhance our continuum of care and help us to better serve our community.”
