Juvenile Justice Services
Program Assessment

OVERVIEW

Before Girls and Boys Town provides program development services, a program assessment is conducted. This involves a two- to four-day, on-site visit by two or more training professionals. Following the visit, a program assessment report is drafted that offers an overall analysis of your agency's culture. This allows us to tailor services to your agency's individual needs.

WHAT WE DO

The program assessment includes input from administrators, supervisors, direct-care staff, support staff and clients. The length of the assessment depends on the size of your agency/program and the number of staff. This information will also determine the number of reviewers necessary to conduct the assessment. However, a minimum of two evaluators is required.

During their visit, reviewers use a variety of data collection activities to obtain a representative picture of program components and staff functions. The assessment obtains data from four sources:

  1. Focus groups or interviews with clients, staff, supervisors, administrators and support staff
  2. Paper and pencil surveys of clients and staff
  3. Direct observation of program activities
  4. Document reviews, which can include the mission statement, organizational chart, job descriptions, training materials, performance appraisals, client demographics and client files.
