Program - Training of Trainers

COURSE OBJECTIVES

As new staff and volunteers join your program, wouldn't it be great to be able to train them yourself? This Training-of-Trainers Workshop gives you the skills and the tools you need to conduct a two-day before and after school training session for new employees.

At Training-of-Trainers, you will learn how to lead your own training workshops and troubleshoot complicated training issues as well as discuss strategies for successful training. You will receive a trainer's guide, visual aides and a workbook for each of the following training modules:

• Structuring for Safety
• Building Relationships with Youth
• Creation and Oversight of Activities
• Teaching Skills
• Dealing with Difficult Behavior
• Promoting Character Development
• Group Management
• Developmental Levels of Childhood
• Effective Communication with Parents
• Designing Effective Curricula to Meet the Needs of Youth in Your Community

Each module can function as a separate workshop or can be taught over an extended period of time, creating a complete staff development process.

YOUTH CURRICULUM SKILL CARDS: A TAKE-HOME TRAINING SUPPLEMENT

You will be given 180 activity cards designed to stimulate children's social, emotional and academic development. The cards include step-by-step instructions for leading fun, creative activities in six key areas:

• Recreation
• Education
• Social and Moral Development
• Citizenship
• Healthy Living
• Career Development

Activity cards come in two packets: K-6 and middle/high school. The K-6 cards feature icons that identify the grade level (K-3 or 4-6) of each activity.

SPECIALIZED PROGRAMS

You can take advantage of customized training programs to address your specific organizational goals. These specialized workshops can be done in one or two days, depending on the topic and the number of participants. Workshops may cover, but are not limited to, these subjects:
