Reading Is FAME®
Foundations of Reading
OVERVIEW
Foundations of Reading is the first course in the Reading Is FAME program. It is designed specifically for students in grades 7-12 who read below the 4th grade level and whose decoding skills are the primary cause of their reading problems. In this course, students learn the relationships between the most common letter combinations and sounds. Oral reading, computer activities and word activities are used to reinforce skills. Students who lack a basic knowledge of syllables, vowel sounds and sight words may require a different intervention.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
Educators who work with students in grades 7-12 can be trained to use the curriculum. Foundations of Reading training and consultation services can be provided at the state, regional, district, program, school or classroom level.
Prerequisite: To ensure program success, one-day training and follow-up consultation visit are necessary.
