Reading Is FAME®
Adventures in Reading
OVERVIEW
Adventures in Reading is the second course in the Reading Is FAME® program and is designed specifically for students in grades 7-12 who read between the 4th and 6th grade levels. The Adventures in Reading course helps students improve reading fluency and their ability to recognize words and meanings. Collaborative oral reading and computer and word activities are used to promote fluency and improve the students' basic reading vocabularies.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
This course is ideal for teachers, administrators, special education coordinators, reading specialists and other educators who work with students in grades 7-12. Adventures in Reading training and consultation services can be provided at the state, regional, district, program, school or classroom level.
Prerequisite: Signed contract for one-day training and follow-up consultation visit.

- Develop a day-by-day plan for implementing the second course in the Reading Is FAME program.
- Select and use direct-instruction techniques, computer software, word activities, young adult novels, and homework assignments that are interesting, challenging and age-appropriate.
- Use proven instruction strategies for teaching vocabulary words and their meanings.
