Child and Family Services
Managing and Motivating Foster Parents

OVERVIEW

This workshop is intended to provide supervisory and administrative staff with a structured system to supervise foster parents.  It is designed for foster care agencies that are implementing treatment within a community based setting.  The goal of the supervision workshop is to aid supervisory staff in reinforcing and monitoring the implementation of the treatment provided by foster parents.

The supervision system was developed with its roots in learning theory and behavioral modification.  As an advanced workshop it is designed to assist supervisors in accomplishing successful foster parent treatment implementation through a systematic approach.  This supervision system is comprehensive in that it:

  • Embraces procedures to accomplish treatment objectives

  • Utilizes individual program/ agency staff to prescribe intervention techniques

  • Directs intervention and skill development toward foster parents and foster youth

  • Sets guidelines under which interventions are to be carried out

The supervision system is flexible in that it allows independent child care agencies to modify it within their own program structure without losing the benefits of its valuable characteristics.
