Behavioral Health Services
Psychoeducational Treatment Model (PEM®)

OVERVIEW

The Psychoeducational Treatment Model (PEM®) is a nationally recognized model of care that is used in inpatient and outpatient child and adolescent psychiatric hospitals, residential treatment centers, day-treatment programs and other facilities that care for youth with psychiatric and related behavioral disorders.

PEM is therapeutically oriented, allowing you and your entire staff to act as potent treatment agents. PEM combines social skill instruction with intervention strategies to support both you and the youth you serve. It is the daily, on-going teaching that distinguishes PEM from programs that offer traditional care.

BENEFITS

PEM provides a structured framework to help agencies

  • Teach youth to manage their behavior.
  • Reinforce appropriate behavior.
  • Correct inappropriate behavior.
  • Cope with crises calmly and consistently.

PEM empowers youth by enabling them to

  • Monitor their thoughts, feelings and behaviors.
  • Control their impulses.
  • Delay gratification.
  • Empathize and build relationships.
