The Boys Town National Research Institute Speaker Series Presents: Robert Friedman
Robert Friedman Developing Data-Based and Value-Based Systems of Care: Where Are We and How Do We Move Ahead? Tuesday, April 22, 2008 The core of Boys Town’s new strategic plan is to expand services into a continuum of care in selected growth sites with an emphasis on serving children living in their own families when possible to prevent the need for higher levels of care. Dr. Friedman has been a national leader in efforts to reform services for children with mental health and related challenges. Reform efforts have emphasized development of community-based systems of care based on a set of principles and values and informed by data collected about people served, services provided, and outcomes for children and families. Dr. Friedman is co-author with Beth Stroul of “A System of Care for Children and Youth with Severe Emotional Disturbances,” a monograph on systems of care which has been widely used across the country to reform service delivery systems. This work is directly related to Boys Town’s goals. Dr. Friedman is Professor in the Department of Child and Family Studies, Louis de la Parte, Florida Mental Health Institute (FMHI), University of South Florida, and Director of the Research and Training Center for Children’s Mental Health, one of two such centers in the U.S. He is a clinical psychologist, researcher, author, policy analyst, and consultant on issues such as the development and evaluation of community-based systems of care, prevalence of emotional disorders in children, new developments in service delivery, and the relationship between the mental health system and other systems. 2008 Speaker Series
