Josè

Family Background
Thirteen-year-old Josè has a history of mental health issues that include Conduct Disorder, ADHD and Bipolar Disorder. His legal guardian (a paternal grandparent) struggled to care for him and two younger siblings. Josè required special education services, which had little impact because of his noncompliant behavior in school. He also was heavily involved in gang activity.

Behavior Issues
Despite his young age, Josè’s juvenile record was extensive. He has faced more than a dozen charges, including:

  • Evading arrest
  • Violating a juvenile court order
  • Criminal trespass
  • Burglary
  • Terroristic threats
  • Possession of marijuana
  • Contempt of a magistrate

Progress at Boys Town
Since arriving at Boys Town, Josè has turned around his social and academic behaviors. He is more responsible about his schoolwork. He attends class regularly and has achieved a 3.0 grade-point average. He even plans to join the school’s soccer team. Although he has only been in the Treatment Family HomeSM program for a few months, Josè continues to learn and use social skills that are helping him control his anger, follow instructions and accept consequences for his behavior. His Family-Teachers describe Josè as polite, helpful and dependable.
