Why is the dinner table so important for a family?

View Transcript

We know that the dinner table matters a lot to families because they tell us that at Boys Town but if you also look at the research on families who eat together those families tend to report greater levels of communication. Their kids take risk at a lower level so we know that there's something about the communication that happens when you're eating together that helps families talk to each other. Kids feel safer and they are more likely to make good choices and be able to tell their parents when they're struggling with something.
