When it comes to people, I don't want children to learn to be tolerant. I want them to learn to truly care. And I often tell parents, care involves being able to connect with others, to accept them. The A in that "care" is about acceptance, and the R, respect, and the E is about educating people about yourself or learning about someone else.
Oftentimes, parents have to do all that themselves. You can't say, "Do as I say and not as I do." So when it comes to teaching children, I would rather teach them how to care than to be tolerant.
