What tips do you have for explaining custody and living arrangements to your children after a divorce?
When you are going through a divorce, living arrangements are going to change. Sometimes children will live at one home for a weekend and then the other home during the weekday because they're going to school.
Before the divorce, I would really sit down with the children and talk about how the schedule is going to change, and it will change. It is important to have that conversation and for children to have some input on the schedule. Not necessarily when they're going to go to bed or wake up because that needs to stay the same and parents need to make sure that children are having routines and schedules in their lives and that it fits the best need of the child, not necessarily of the adults involved.
